Meet Tamara Turner: The Single Mother Turning a ‘Silver Spoon’ Into a Symbol of Empowerment

Tamara Turner, Owner Silver Spoon Desserts

Tamara Turner, the visionary behind Silver Spoon Desserts, is redefining what it means to be born with a "silver spoon"—transforming it from a metaphor for privilege into one of divine inspiration, resilience, and community upliftment.

Her journey began in August 2017, when a moment of spiritual clarity shifted her path. "I was reflecting on my life, asking God for direction—and suddenly, I knew baking was my calling," she recalls. Within months, she launched her business, specializing in miniature bundt cakes and artisanal pastries, crafted from generations-old family recipes. But her mission went beyond desserts: she was determined to create opportunities for single mothers like herself.

From Door-to-Door Hustle to High-Flying Success

With no commercial kitchen, Turner took her treats directly to decision-makers, pitching airlines, restaurants, and even professional sports teams. Her elegant packaging and irresistible flavors quickly won clients over—but her biggest break came in 2018 when she won $25,000 in a business pitch competition.

The victories kept coming. After partnering with a catering company servicing American Airlines, the airline requested her desserts specifically. There was just one problem: She didn’t have a facility. Undeterred, Turner manifested her next miracle—a 16,000-square-foot bakery in Chicago, built to handle massive orders.

Her mindset was— “We can’t shrink the goal, we have to increase the effort.”

A Recipe for Legacy: Empowering Single Mothers

Turner’s success isn’t just measured in square footage or airline contracts. At the heart of Silver Spoon Desserts is a mission to mentor single mothers, providing jobs, training, and encouragement to those striving for their own dreams.

Today, her cakes soar across the globe—literally—served on flights from Chicago to Dubai. Yet for Turner, the sweetest reward is proving that a silver spoon isn’t given—it’s earned, shared, and multiplied.

"I want every single mother to know: Your struggles are ingredients for your success," she says. "Mix them with faith, hustle, and vision—and watch what rises."
